Episode Nineteen: Brian Markinson

Episode Nineteen: Brian Markinson

Brian Markinson is the textbook Veteran Actor. His filmography goes on for miles and includes Mad MenThe Curse of the Jade ScorpionCharlie Wilson’s War, multiple Star Trek series, Arctic AirContinuumSanctuary, and key roles on Chris Haddock’s CBC spy thriller The Romeo Section and Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. He appeared in the Emmy Award winning miniseries Angels in America, playing the character of Martin Heller opposite Al Pacino’s Roy Cohn. Roy Cohn was arguably one of the most despicable human beings in the 20th century, and years after the miniseries, Brian inhabited the role of Roy Cohn himself in the Arts Club’s production of Angels in America. Brian recently wrapped on Shannon Kohli’s feature film directorial debut All Joking Aside, in which he plays a really mean, down and out stand-up comic based on legendary Vancouver comedian Richard Lett. In this compelling episode of the YVR Screen Scene Podcast, Brian covers a lot of territory: being the only Jewish kid in a Christian children’s choir; Roy Cohn’s brain; making the jump from stage to screen; his mantra, “Balance is sexy.”
